Once the file has finished downloading, just open the disk image, and drag the XAMPP folder to the "Applications" folder alias. Many Mac users have a little difficulty at this stage when trying to set up another instance of Apache on their machine. You can change the listening port of the pre-installed Apache server. Find the folder labeled Apache2, and edit the "http. Modify the line that says, "Listen 80" to Listen [portNumber]. Note: If you choose to change the port of the pre-installed Apache server, you may need to restart your computer for changes to take effect.

Thanks in advance if you're able to assist. What I was really after was abuse rather than helpful advice, so well done.
If you didn't know that answer you could have just kept it shut, n'est pas? Seeing as this is on an XP PC it's is not the full IIS implementation, hence the permissions are relaxed to some degree to cater for it being a"personal" installation, not Server installation, unless of of course this is two separate machines with IIS under Server and Apache under XP, but similar issues arise with cross-permissions and XP still not being as secure as even Server.
